Down from 5 to one star. They’re going in the trash. Two of the five recent units went off when there was no trace of smoke. The silence button didn’t work on some. Some wouldn’t go off when the on-off switch was used.
I had one for two years in a condo with no problems. Now I’m getting 5 for a house, despite other’s poor reviews. I really wanted the 10-year battery. Hope it works. My main reason for choosing this model is that I can hear it!. Most alarms are too high for my impaired hearing. I can definitely hear the voice a few rooms away. And in this case, I can even hear the siren. The thing is compact, easy to install and easy to operate.

We moved into our new place and our landlord upgraded us to these, thankfully. We have them all over the house and they were easy to install physically as well as to set up the voice alerts. We’ve had a couple of instances where smoke started to develop in the kitchen because something we were cooking started to smoke and this quickly alerted us.
I’ve only had one experience of it going off and us not being sure what was going on, we suspect maybe carbon monoxide but the voice alert only named the room. Otherwise, we’ve had no problems with it. I highly recommend these.

This thing is tiny! It is extremely thin and sleek. It doesn’t take up much space and best of all, no false alarms. You can cook right next to this thing and it won’t set it off. That was one of the biggest issue with the one it replace. it is battery operated and comes with the battery. The battery is not meant to be replace. You slide a plastic piece on the back to turn it on and break it off when the battery is dead.

I have five of these in my house. I installed them about 10 months ago when I had to install them before the inspection of my new solar system – apparently that’s the code. One of them started to give false alarms and I had to replace it. I certainly hope that this was the exception….

I owned two of these. They both malfunctioned and started blaring for no reason. Once was while we were out of town…the fire department was called, they had to break our patio door to get into the house to remove this detector. Clearly, I’m not super happy with this product.. On the flip side, Amazon was great as usual responding to my support request.
