Long before she played Jill Taylor, Tim Allen’s wife on “Home Improvement,” Patricia Richardson spent “a whole 13 years” on the Upper West Side. “I started my career doing theater,” says the 66-year-old Maryland native, who later moved on to Los Angeles, TV and raising three children. Now she’s back in New York in “Cruel Intentions,” the ’90s jukebox musical at Le Poisson Rouge. The bicoastal star keeps a place in Hell’s Kitchen, mostly to be closer to her two Brooklyn-based sons. She tells Barbara Hoffman where you’ll find her on the weekends.

These days, my life revolves around my Shih-poo, a Shih Tzu-poodle mix named Olive. She’s 10 years old but everyone thinks she’s a puppy. When it’s good weather, we walk all the way down to the park at 23rd Street. It’s beautiful along the [Hudson] river, and you can bring lunch and sit at the tables there.

When I first came to Hell’s Kitchen five or six years ago, there wasn’t much around. Now, Gotham West Market is here, and it has all these wonderful exotic foods and different beers, and Ample Hills Creamery ice cream, homemade ice cream with the most unbelievable flavors. There’s even an outdoor section, so I can take Olive!

For a good meal here we go to 44 & X. It’s at 44th Street and 10th Avenue, and it’s all-white wainscoting and windows. It used to be across from a cab stand, but they tore that down. It has excellent food — a really wonderful seafood salad and great meat.

I spend a lot of time in Brooklyn, and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is our favorite place. When my son Henry got married, the rehearsal dinner was at the Alamo Drafthouse in Boston, so when they finally built one in Brooklyn, it was like, “Yay!”

It’s for people who are serious about film. They don’t allow anyone to turn on a cellphone there, not even to check a text: They’ll kick you out, and they’re very clear about it. They have pizza and hamburgers, and the servers are very discreet about ducking down and not getting in the way.

I was such a terrible cook, so my kids became great cooks by default. That’s why they’re into great restaurants.

Our favorite is the Grill. There are, like, 8 million waiters, the meat is incredible — we’re not vegetarians! — and the ambiance is wonderfully retro. My kids take advantage of the fact I’m here: “Oh, great! Mom has money. She’ll take us out!”
